Phone Call, Tuesday Evening

Outside, a three-quarter moon
snagged in winter’s
black branches, and I whisper without shoes
or jacket, In his sleep?
Mid-forties?
Perfect health and a family?

Inside, there is a call
to dinner, and the banging of spoons
against rims of stainless steel pots.
There are bowls of buttery noodles
ladled with a brown mushroom sauce.
