when night falls
and we become obsessed
with the dark
and you finger
tiny teeth in the pocket
of last year’s jacket
thinking the space between now
and then is a record skipping
to its own language
on the outskirts of town
there are more outskirts
more wind
remembering us as blurs
of doubt in the aftermath
of another season
when someone’s
always watching
